What’s new in Startwerk

New features, improvements and fixes, newest first. Startwerk updates itself through the Chrome Web Store, so you always have the latest version.

Current version: 1.5.3 · Open in the Chrome Web Store

Version 1.5.1 – 1.5.3

Smoother Spaces, twinkling stars

The Space arrows now sit in the free margin beside the widgets and dock next to the buttons at the bottom when the page gets too narrow. A double-click on a Space no longer opens the settings as well. At night, the stars in the weather background twinkle, a little brighter near the horizon.

Version 1.5.0

The Spaces bar is now its own element

Move it, resize it, remove it or add it back, just like any other widget. Without the bar, faint arrows at the page edges switch between Spaces and a small badge shows which one you’re in. Existing setups look exactly as before.

Version 1.4.0 – 1.4.1

Folders are now Spaces

Folders became Spaces in all 18 languages. Your names, bookmarks and layouts stay as they are. On new installs the Spaces bar sits at the top of the page. Widgets can be pinned to every Space and keep one shared place and size. In edit mode the bar gets a pencil for its settings and an × to hide it.

Version 1.3.0 – 1.3.1

A short note on what’s new

After an update, a small line above the clock tells you once what’s new, and disappears with one click. The Readwise highlight now links to your daily review, the breathing light flies out of its widget when you start, and bookmark icons got softer corners.

Version 1.2.2 – 1.2.9

New: Readwise highlight, Perplexity and ChatGPT

A new widget shows one of your own Readwise highlights every day. Perplexity and ChatGPT join the search engines. Breathe gets an optional meditation tone, the widget area grows wider, and rain at night is lighter, with drops that linger and dry after the shower. Your Readwise token is deleted as soon as you remove the widget.

Version 1.2.0 – 1.2.1

New: Breathe

A guided breathing exercise with a living light that fills the page. Choose a rhythm, watch the time left and let everything else fade out for a minute. You’ll find it in the new “Focus & calm” category of the gallery.

Version 1.1.12 – 1.1.15

Raindrops on the glass

Rain in the weather background now lands on the pane, runs down and merges, calm and realistic. Bookmarks can be sorted by drag and drop, icons are sharper in true HD, the clock can be bold or italic, and widget shadows can be switched off.

Version 1.1.10 – 1.1.11

A seamless night sky

The night sky now flows without visible steps, Spaces can be rearranged by drag and drop, and the rain icon matches the actual chance of rain. A new button turns on the weather background in one click.

Version 1.1.0 – 1.1.9

New: the weather background

Your start page can now show the weather outside, softly, as if through a misted window, with the real sunrise and sunset times and a starry sky at night that follows the cloud cover. Plus new search engines, a clearer weather setup and a note on which countries weather currently works in.

Version 1.0.1

Startwerk is live in the Chrome Web Store

Startwerk is now available for everyone in the Chrome Web Store. The first update hides Mini Sites when you switch Spaces, lets you choose a Space for Huddle and shows your free-time Space after work.

Text size setting paused

We’ve temporarily removed the text size option from the settings. It will return once every widget and dialog scales cleanly with it.

Mini Sites at full size

Mini Sites now show websites at their original size instead of a scaled-down mobile view. Text keeps its size when you resize a tile, so a bigger tile simply gives the page more room.

New: Mini Sites

Embed any website as a tile on your start page. Resize it freely, add as many as you like and pin each one to a Space. If a site doesn’t allow embedding, Startwerk shows a link to open it in a new tab instead.
